Research and Planning: Genre research

 Horror
This genre of film is associated with low key lighting and dark themes. The audience is drawn in by the 'fear factor' and the controversy of the themes. Horror films are often given high ratings due to adult themes. These films often focus on the paranormal and creatures from myths or other worlds.

Animation
Often directed at a younger audience (but often is suitable for adults watching also) characters are often based on fairy-tales and voiced by famous actors. Disney are the kings of animation with over 50 films. Using bright colours and a 'they all lived happily ever after' storyline.

Super hero/ Action
Usually based on comic books (dominated by Marvel and DC comics). Expect to see lots of explosions and fight/chase scenes. Stereotypically I would associate this genre with a male audience however it has also become very popular with both genders.

Rom-Com
Mostly directed towards a female audience. Bright lighting and a lighthearted storyline. Mostly social realistic. They usually begin introducing a girl or a group of girls, there is then a sad scene in the middle and then it all turns around to have a happy ending.
